Denmark became part of the European Union on January 1, 1973 along with Britain and the republic of Ireland. Another name for Denmark is the Peninsula of Jutland. Denmark was the first voted agianst adapting the European Constitution because they feared that thier independent identity would be enveloped by the European Identity. In other words they wanted to be individuals (Danish) instead of being part of a group (European Union). But after the World War it became vital for it's economic survival.
What are the pros and cons of your country becoming part of the EU?
The alliances that connect all of the countries ensure maximum security for everyone involved in this beneficial society. The EU can benefit Denmark because they are not limited to resources, if they need something from other countries then it is cheep. Denmark was suffering greatly after the World Wars and they were brought out of a sad state because the help that was provided from the EU. On the downside, Denmark had to adapt to different cultures and currencies. In addition, Denmark now has to share all of it's valuable resources such as beer, wood products, machinery, and they have a large fishing industry brings jobs to many of Denmark's surrounding islands. Denmark is also a welfare sate that takes care of all it's people. Most of the European Union are welfare states.
